About this list
- It is selective, not comprehensive. It favors work that measures shortages directly (positions that go unfilled) and that puts schools in the context of the rest of the economy, matching the dashboard's emphasis. Data sets themselves are not listed (the dashboard links them under each chart and on the data provenance page); the readings here describe them in plain language. The few sources that use a different measure of shortage are labeled. Some readings appear under more than one question.
- Notes describe, they do not grade. Each note says what a source finds or argues and why it may be useful here. Readers should consult the sources for methods and caveats.
- The author's own work is labeled. Several entries are by the dashboard's author; they are marked so readers can weigh them accordingly.
